Important SABL Age Changes

The purpose of this message is to inform you of a recent change in the structuring of our baseball program’s age groups. The change for the 2018 season will be as follows:

The SABL Board of Directors recently met to discuss current and projected registration numbers for Baseball for the upcoming 2018 Season. The Board of Directors have decided to change the age groupings for the baseball divisions for the 2018 season. Please follow the below instructions when registering your child for baseball. The divisions will be as follows:

Quick Ball- ages 4-6- Any player that will be 6 years old prior to May 1, 2018 has the option to move to the next level if the player has one year experience with Quick Ball. Parent has the discretion with a 6 year old player. If you are registering your child for this level, please check off Quick Ball on the registration page, and indicate your desire for your child to “play up” in the comments section when registering.

Pony- ages 6-7- Players at this level have previous experience at Quick Ball and/or baseball at Pony level. This level will focus on throwing, fielding and hitting fundamentals. The league will be machine pitch. If you are registering your child at this level, please check off Pony 2 on the registration page.

Minors- ages 8-9- The focus will be on the continued development of throwing, fielding, and hitting fundamentals.  The first half of the games will be player pitch with coach support if needed. The second half of the games will be machine pitch.  There will be a mid-season practice week, followed by all kid pitch, with support from coaches if needed.  The league would not require umpires during regular season. If you are registering your child at this level, please check off Minors on the registration page.

Majors- ages 10, 11, and 12- Majors will be a competitive league with the same rules and field dimensions as our current Minors program (46' rubber / 60' base path).  The league would require hired umpires for all games.  The league would hold end of season playoffs. If you are registering your child for this level, please check off Majors on the registration page.

SABL feels that these changes will provide our baseball players the best learning experience which will ultimately lead to a fun and successful season. If anyone has any questions about these changes, please feel free to contact us.
