SABL Coaches Come Together For Friendly Game

SABL coaches took advantage of the long Labor Day weekend to
hold a friendly men's softball game.

On Sunday, September 6, about 18 coaches from across the league arrived
at Stover Field to practice the skills they preached all spring to their
teams.  Wives and kids lined the stands for support, but also to holler out
some of those important reminders they'd heard from their beloved
coaches during the season.  "Hit the cut-off man!","Run through the
base!", and "Don't throw the ball around!" were among the
helpful comments heard.

Several sons helped out with umpiring, and base running for those who
gallantly chose to claim "old knee injury" over "I'm too old and tired to
run another 60 feet."  All in all, it was a highly successful 9 inning event,
with equally great shows of hitting, pitching, and fielding.  Final score
was 0 - 0, or 30 - 25, depending on who was asked.

No players could be reached for comment on Monday, reportedly due to
being at Labor Day picnics, but one can't help but wonder if the aroma of
Bengay and Icy Hot wafting through the air was also a factor.

The league hopes to turn such an event into a semi-annual
(or annual, depending on actual recovery times) outing.

SABL's Boys All Star Games

This year's Major and Minor League All Star Games were very well attended, and were a huge success.  Write-ups of these games appeared in the Souderton Independent, and were written by SABL Board Member Leah O'Leary.
